April 15, 2011 - RV Over Annpaolis with Bro/Bones

My old shipmate Bro C from Naval Academy days was in town with his son Kyle to look at colleges.  They stayed with us for a few days and it ended up being a great time.  Of course I had to take them flying.  Another old Shipmates -- Bones -- who lives on the Eastern Shore was able to join us for the day.

Kyle ready to do some aviating.

I took Kyle up first, then Bro, then Bones.  For each I we headed south, talked with Potomic Air Traffic Control so we could enter the SFRA (Special Flight Rules Area), flew over the Naval Academy and Annapolis, and then came back up the Chesapeake Bay.

On the way to Annaplis, we flew over Cantler's Riverside Inn -- pictured below -- which is where we would be in a few hours eating crabs and drinking canned beer.  Great place!

Bones took all of the following pictures with my camera.

Approaching the Naval Academy and Annapolis from the north.  Must cross the Severn River first.

The Naval Adademy's mighty YP (Yard Patrol) squadron.

If you attended the Naval Academy, you'll recognize all the buildings, know the names, and what they are.  I won't bore everyone else with it.

That field in the middle of the picture is Hospital Point.  I spent a lot of time on that field playing intramural sports.

A nice shot of "The Yard" with Mother B at the top.

Another shot of "The Yard" with the Chapel where Lynnette and I were married.

You can see Crabtown -- Annapolis -- at the top of the image.

The Maryland State Capital building in the center of picture.

That is where they make important decisions like -- let's double the toll on the bridges and tunnels !   At a time when the people are hurting from an economy in the tank, scarce jobs, and gas prices an all time high, yeah, let's gouge more money from the people so we can continue to waste it.  Great idea!

Navy-Marine Corp stadium.  I havn't been to a game in awhile.  I noticed they have an F-18 Hornet down in the lower right in Blue Angels markings.

A good shot of Annapolis from the west.

A good shot of just the Naval Academy.

Out in the Chesapeake Bay, five of the Naval Academy yawls were returning home under full sail.

We circled around them.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge.  It's the only way to drive across the bay other than going to the top of the bay at Wilmington or all the way down to Norfolk.

The three shipmates -- Claw, Bones, Bro -- reliving old times over crabs and beer.
